“We’re going to feel the repercussions for years to come” – Mike Dubeau

In the latest update with the Director General of the Western Quebec School Board (WQSB) Mike Dubeau, he touched on the long-term impacts that COVID-19 will have on the education system. Dubeau mentioned the deficit students are facing when it comes to the opportunity of education they receive.

Mike Dubeau also spoke about the difficulties of operating a school in a Red Zone, as is the case in the city of Gatineau. From grades 9 to 11, classes are in rotation between in class learning and distance learning from home.

Student life is another area in schools that has been the most effected by the pandemic. Students aren’t allowed to see friends at school that are in a different bubble and extracurricular activies have also been cancelled, in all of the schools throughout the WQSB.

Mike Dubeau mentionned that students, parents and staff alike are getting tired of the mesures put in place by public safety. Even though the situation is hard, he would like to highlight the support from parents throughout the pandemic.

Mike Dubeau also confirmed that no cases of COVID-19 were reported in their Pontiac schools.
