As announced Thursday, the Oktoberfest Ladysmith made the decision to cancel of this year’s event to ensure the safety of its visitors.

In an interview with the president of the board of directors, Lorraine Bretzlaff explained the reason for this precautionary cancellation, highlighting the fact that COVID-19 will not be gone in October.

Approximately 2,000 to 5,000 people attend the festival on a yearly basis, according to Lorraine Bretzlaff, which was another key factor to their decision.

It may be important to remember that this year’s Oktoberfest celebration in Ladysmith was scheduled for October 2-4, outside of the Quebec government’s measure to cancel all public events organized in the summer 2020 (until August 31st).

The next Oktoberfest in Ladysmith is scheduled for October 1-3 in 2021, and will be celebrating it’s 35th anniversary.
