Tax season kicks off this week and Canadian taxpayers have until April 30 to submit their tax return. The Minister of National Revenue, Diane Lebouthillier, was a guest on the Bonjour Pontiac program on CHIP 101.9, where she stressed, among other things, the exceptional nature of this tax period in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It will be a special and unique tax season. There are various economic measures that have been put in place. I am thinking of the deduction for teleworking of $ 2 per day up to a maximum of $ 400, if we have worked from home, ”explains Minister Lebouthillier.

In addition to certain measures specific to the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, Diane Lebouthillier says her ministry will make more resources available to Canadians to help them with their questions this year. In fact, she notes that there has been an 85% increase in the number of questions at the Canada Revenue Agency this year compared to last year.

“In January 2020, the Revenue Agency was receiving 350,000 calls per week. In January 2021, we had reached 1,000,000 calls per week. We see that people have questions. If ever people from Pontiac would be interested, we are also in the process of recruiting people who would like to work in call centers, ”said the Minister.
