“We have had peaks concerning the number of cases” – Dr Brigitte Pinard

The news was not encouraging from the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais during their press conference held on April 7 regarding the number of COVID-19 cases. Cases are on the rise and the variants more difficult to control. The number of active cases across the region is 792, including 590 in the city of Gatineau. The number of active cases isn’t only on the rise in urban areas, rural areas have also been affected.

For example, the number of active cases in the Pontiac RLS is at 25, an increase of 13 compared to last week. In total, the number of cases since the start of the pandemic is now 128 for the RLS Pontiac territory.

“We have had highs in the number of cases. The Vallée-de-la-Gatineau and Papineau regions are currently under surveillance ”, mentioned the interim director of public health in the Outaouais, Dr Brigitte Pinard.

Several additional follow-ups take place when a territory is under surveillance. “We do a global analysis, to see the links between people and to ensure that operations are optimal. We are also looking to see if events could have caused the spread of the virus ”, explained Dr Brigitte Pinard.
