“We are winning this battle” – François Legault
Premier of Quebec, François Legault, said he is optimistic about the coming weeks in the fight against COVID-19.
In his daily press briefing on Wednesday, Legault said that the government is preparing a plan to reopen certain businesses in the next weeks. “But we’re not there yet,” said Legault.
Although it is too early to give any indication regarding the reopening of businesses, the Premier said that business owners and managers can start thinking and planning for the reopening in the coming weeks, including by getting ready to put in place measures for distancing.
François Legault also recognized that the process reopening businesses will not be so simple: the government must consider children of workers and the use of public transportation.
The government still hopes to be able to gradually reopen businesses in the coming weeks, if the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to stabilize in Quebec. The construction sector will be given priority.
Reopening schools, parks, terraces and festivals?
With the arrival of warmer weather, many are wondering whether public places will be reopened and what the conditions will be. With regard to festivals, the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, admitted that it will be difficult to enforce the various rules put in place, but that it is still too early to predict the evolution of the virus in real time. Following that, the Festival d’Été de Québec (FEQ) announced its cancellation Thursday. He also recognized that the return to school could possibly be done “gradually, taking into account the issue of keeping 2 meters of social distance in schools and daycares”.
