The Voix du PONTIAC-PONTIAC Voice group reacted to the recent announcement of the departure of two doctors from the obstetrics unit at Shawville Hospital.

“It is with great sorrow that we a have learned that two doctors doing obstetrics are leaving Shawville Hospital. Sources have told us that the lack of support in last few years has taken their told and they have decided to throw in the towel. ‘We cannot blame doctors, nurses and other professionals for being so upset, after all they have been keeping our services alive for years. Throughout the years, before the amalgamation, everyone was helping with recruitment, but that all stopped. So now CISSSO administration is confronted to shortages and is a reactive mode and not a proactive mode’, laments Pontiac Voice Spokesperson, Josey Bouchard. Our hearts go out to the future moms and dads living with their stress. We are thankful for the nurses from both the Jewish and Lakeshore Hospital who have stepped up to offer some respite to our staff. We know that the new administration is trying hard to patch up the services, but we are still waiting to have concrete actions promised by Minister McCann.”

An article from Radio-Canada revealed on November 6th that two of the five doctors in the obstetrics unit in Shawville would leave the facility at the end of December.

According to the CISSS de l’Outaouais’ President and CEO, Josée Filion, the solutions put in place will help maintain the service until January 2020.

It should be noted that a shortage of obstetrical nurses has particularly affected the service at the Shawville Hospital since last summer. To date, the hospital is counting on the assistance of a nurse from the Jewish General Hospital of Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal to lend a hand to the team in place.
