The progress of a planned seniors home in Shawville is hinging on an environmental assessment that’s been sent to the provincial Environment Ministry. David Gillespie, who took over the presidency of the Villa James Shaw committee earlier this year, explained that they required an assessment of the property where the home is planned, located at the top of the hill on rue Centre. [Gillespie also serves on CHIP 101.9’s board of directors]

The assessment, which the committee has already paid a consultant to conduct, pertains to any threatened or at-risk species that might inhabit the property. Gillespie added that they had received a grant from the MRC for the work.

Gillespie said that the VJS project was “on pause” at the moment while they waited on the response from the provincial government. He laughed when asked if he had an estimate on when they would get an answer, and said that he would be surprised if it was less than a few months.
