Vandalism at the Litchfield rest area

The park and splash pad located along Route 148 in Litchfield were temporarily closed Thursday due to “possible vandalism” at the base of the Picanoc network transmission tower, located in the road stop of the municipality.

According to the most recent information obtained by CHIP 101.9, there is “definite evidence of vandalism which is under investigation”. The municipality confirmed that the repairs are now complete and that access to the park and the water features will be reopened on Friday morning.

Around 4 p.m. Wednesday, the municipal office was notified that damage had been caused to the tower, making it unstable and therefore posing a danger to park users. People on the scene were evacuated and the stopover was temporarily closed.

A WEpc Technology Solutions team was on site to assess the damage and make repairs. “The damage was observed yesterday after an inspection was completed,” said company co-founder and president Scott Lemay. Once we realized there was a problem, we notified the municipality and believed for safety reasons that we should close this site until the tower was repaired, “he adds.

Mr. Lemay also indicates that the customers of the Picanoc Network should not be affected by the situation. “The problem was detected early on and we are taking the necessary steps to fix it. The tower is still operational, so the service is still offered and the Internet service is maintained. ”

An investigation is underway to determine the source of the damage to the transmitting tower. The general manager of the municipality of Litchfield, Julie Bertrand, told CHIP 101.9 that damage is often observed in the park and asks users to respect the facilities of the roadside.
