The Île-du-Grand-Calumet Recreation Centre will celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day with three days of activities, June 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, as part of its 50th anniversary festivities.

The celebrations will begin on June 22nd with a family day featuring various activities and a free barbecue for students of St. Anne School, a partner of the Centre in organizing physical activities over the past year.

June 23rd will be dedicated to seniors. The program includes chair yoga, bingo, local artisans, performances by the Gatineau Folk Group, which will present interactive traditional songs and dances, and a workshop on the art of playing wooden spoons. In the evening, performances by Nathalie Ladouceur, René Bertrand, and Michaela Cahill will be presented.

The day of June 24th will be geared towards the whole family, featuring a bouncy castle, face painting, a bike parade, a performance by Junkyard Symphony, a scavenger hunt at the library for teenagers, interactive games, a car show, artisans, and a maple syrup tasting contest. The bands Les Dames d’Abord and The Bilinguish Boys will also provide musical entertainment.

The festivities will conclude with a fireworks display, weather permitting.

According to the president of the Recreation Centre, Jeanne McTiernan, the organizers aim to offer a diverse program to appeal to citizens of all ages.
