The state of emergency declared for the municipality of l’Isle-aux-Allumettes
Several municipalities in the MRC Pontiac have declared a state of emergency in the last hours due to this 2019 spring flood season. Yesterday, a press release was issued by the Upper Pontiac area, which include the municipalities of Isle-aux-Allumettes, Chichester, Sheenboro and Waltham, declaring a state of emergency for the municipality of Ile-Aux-Allumettes. The mayor of the municipality, Winston Sunstrum spoke to CHIP 101.9 yesterday, shortly after the state of emergency was declared to give more details in regards to the joint efforts of the municipalities of the Upper Pontiac:
The Canadian Armed Forces were deployed on Wednesday to participate in the prevention efforts. According to Sunstrum, one road has been evacuated and at least three residences Wednesday afternoon due to flooding, but, so far, other municipal roads have not been affected.
According to the forecast issued by the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board, the Coulonge river area is expected to reach 108.60m above mean sea level. At the time of this writing, the level was 107.92m above sea level. In 2017, the maximum reached was 108.52m.
