CHIP 101.9 has learned that the Pontiac Comets, a senior hockey franchise that has played in the Quebec Senior AA Hockey League for two years, are about to leave that league to join the Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League. The team, which plays its games at the arena of the Center de Loisirs des Draveurs in Fort-Coulonge, has indicated that this decision is based on various reasons, including the cost of operation, a desire to reconnect more with the public and that this league has a greater number of teams. Team owner Danick Boisvert said this decision was taken after a few months of reflection.

According to Danick Boisvert, the territory covered by this league and the level would save on travel costs and rely more on local players.

The franchises of the Quebec Senior AA Hockey League (Maniwaki, Mont-Laurier and Mont-Tremblant) had decided to take a year off, which weighed in the Comets’ decision to change leagues.

For Danick Boisvert, this change is also due to the preparation of this league in Ontario for the restart. “The league plans to start its activities in December if the context allows it, but also they have planned a mini-tournament type formula that would allow us to play in January” specifies Danick Boisvert.

Danick Boisvert also mentionned the most recent season for the Comets, which allowed the team to finish 1st in the League during the regular season and also reached the final, which was canceled due to the pandemic of COVID-19, but which was also marked by the decrease in the number of fans at the games. Danick Boisvert has also stated that he hopes to once again build a team made up of more players from the Pontiac.

Boisvert also mentioned that the team experienced financial difficulties, described as minor, but that the stoppage of the season last spring hurt the Comets, he hopes to change this situation. New business partners could also join the organization in the coming months, the team has expressed its desire to strengthen its ties with their sponsors and partners, including the Center de Loisir des Draveurs, in the coming months.
