The Québec Fishing Festival returns across the province from June 5 to 7

Fishing enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a very special weekend from June 5th to 7th during the 26th edition of Québec’s Fête de la pêche.

For these three days, it will be possible to fish without a licence anywhere in the province, except for Atlantic salmon. The event aims to introduce or reintroduce recreational fishing to Quebecers of all ages.

Many municipalities and associations will organize special activities across Québec. Some will also offer the “Pêche en herbe” program, designed for youth aged 6 to 17. This free introduction teaches participants the basics of fishing, how to recognize different fish species, and how to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

At the end of the activity, young participants even receive a certificate that serves as a valid fishing licence until they turn 18, except for salmon fishing.

Those who wish to continue fishing after the Fête de la pêche can purchase a licence online or in various specialized stores. The government also reminds the public that quotas, fishing seasons, and size limits apply depending on the species and region.

Digital tools such as the iPêche app and various interactive maps are also available to help fishers find accessible locations and better understand current regulations.
