The Housing Authority of Pontiac was official launched on January 1st, 2020, bringing together the MRC Pontiac and the municipality of Pontiac (19 municipalities in total). This new office, which has 121 social housing units, received support from the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ), and its partners, along the process of its implementation, which began in 2016.

The project also brings together seven existing housing offices in the Pontiac and MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais.

“I am delighted with the creation of this new housing authority,” said the ministre des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation du Québec Andrée Laforest.”This consolidation will improve the alignment of services as well as the quality. HLM tenants and people looking for social housing will be the first to benefit. With even stronger offices, it will be possible to do more and better meet the housing needs of Quebecers in all regions. This is the clear will of our government.”

According to a press release issued by the SHQ, the new grouping of housing offices across Quebec will allow the government to broaden the process of ”tackling the issues related to housing, to improve the management of supplies and demand for housing on each territory; strengthening the network.”

The Ministre de la Famille and ministre responsable de la région de l’Outaouais, Mathieu Lacombe, said that “the establishment of the Pontiac Housing Authority is a result of the commitment of the administrators of the housing offices. They have chosen to join forces, in the best interest of their clients. I congratulate them for their excellent work and their sense of innovation.”

More details regarding the creation of the Pontiac Housing Authority will be available in the coming days in an exclusive interview with CHIP 101.9.
