A major power outage affected a large portion of the Pontiac yesterday over most of the day, even extending late into the night in the municipality of Fort-Coulonge.

According to the Hydro Québec spokesperson, Alain Paquette, ”a major equipment failure near the Bryson Generating Station would have caused the lengthy power outage across the Pontiac”. Paquette added that the ”repairs posed certain complications which lasted longer than anticipated.”

The outage was first reported late in the morning with the power expected to return in the afternoon. However, deadlines were extended and certain customers in the municipalities of Litchfield, L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet, Bryson, Campbell’s Bay and Fort-Coulonge remained in the dark until late last night.

At a certain point, more than 6,800 clients were without power in the Pontiac.

This outage was an opportunity to make way for mutual aid, such as Metro Mansfield, which helped feed more than 160 people at the Poupore and St-Pierre schools in Fort-Coulonge.

More details on this power failure will be available soon.
