The Outaouais prepares for a potential Ebola threat

The Outaouais prepares for a potential Ebola threat

9 June 2026 à 12:48 pm

Although no cases of Ebola have been reported in Canada and the risk to the population remains very low, public health authorities in the Outaouais region are actively continuing their preparations.

The Integrated Health and Social Services Centre of the Outaouais (CISSSO) reports that it is in an advanced stage of readiness to respond quickly should a suspected case be identified in the region. Hull Hospital has been designated as the reference facility for isolating and managing any potential patients showing symptoms consistent with the virus.

Globally, the situation remains active but localized. According to the latest data from the World Health Organization (WHO), there are more than 500 confirmed cases of Ebola and around one hundred deaths, mainly in Central Africa, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. International health authorities consider the risk of global spread to be low, while maintaining close monitoring and targeted interventions in affected areas.

Public health officials emphasize that these measures are preventive and aim to ensure a rapid and safe response for both patients and healthcare workers.
