The Municipality of Pontiac unveiled this weekend a public art structure created by artist John-Philippe Smith. This sculpture, located in front of the community center of Luskville (2024 highway 148), is part of a circuit highlighting the historical, cultural and natural heritage of the seven municipalities of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais. Artists from the region have been asked to create these sculptures that represent the important history of each community related to water, a unifying theme of the journey.

The proposal of artist John-Philippe Smith was selected by the Municipality of Pontiac from 8 projects following a public competition launched last summer. The work “At the Crossroads” is inspired by the ancient military bounds that are found along the roads from ancient Rome, but also the obelisks which, over the centuries, served to commemorate the memory of an event or a person. The sculpture, 8 feet high, is oriented according to the cardinal points.

Originally from Pontiac, John-Philippe Smith is a professional sculptor and engraver whose works and practice are rooted in history and traditions. He won several prizes including a first place at the European Stone Festival in 2015.
