The Municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes affected by the changes in Flood Zones

Last Friday, the municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes posted a release on their Facebook page in regards to the changes made to the floods zones as announced by the Government of Quebec on June 17th. The ‘New Construction Standards for Flood Plains’ aims to limit the exposure of people and properties to the possibility of flooding in the future, all while highlighting a sustainable solution. For the municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, this new announcement could have “serious consequences” on the residents who reside in the flood zones in question, as explained by the Director General of the municipality, Alicia Jones, in an interview with CHIP 101.9.

The current Draft Law prohibits the constructions of new buildings, rebuilding and repairs to occur in the affected areas. Once again, Alicia Jones explains:

As confirmed by Alicia Jones, residents who have receive a reconstruction permit before Government announcement on June 17th, that permit remains valid. A public consultation session will be held at 3pm on July 4th at the RA center in Campbell’s Bay. More details on this subject can be found in the full interview with Alicia Jones here.
