The MRC resolves to ask for a payment guarantee for the sum due to Pontiac lumber producers
During the most recent MRC Pontiac meeting, the Council of mayors resolved to ask the Quebec government to guarantee the repayment of the Fortress plant’s debt to the private lumber producers in the Pontiac. According to the MRC Pontiac, in a difficult economic context for the entire forestry industry, the unpaid amounts are significant and threatens the viability of the Pontiac lumber producers. The MRC is therefore asking the government to guarantee the payment of the unpaid sums to local producers from the $8 million that will be allocated to help revive the Fortress plant.
