The special emergency measures in force in Gatineau and the Collines-de-l’Outaouais have been extended to all of the Outaouais, including the MRC Pontiac, and are extended until April 25.
The measures include a curfew at 8 p.m., closing schools and closing non-essential businesses. Quebec Premier François Legault made the announcement in the early afternoon on Tuesday (April 13).
“In recent days, in the Outaouais, it has really spread not only in a few cities, but across the territories,” said François Legault. The most recent statistics indeed show a significant increase in the Pontiac Local Service Network (RLS), which has again seen the number of active cases rise in the last hours to now display 51 cases and a total of 171 since the start of the pandemic. The city of Gatineau now has 821 active cases, the territory of the MRC Papineau 103, followed by the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais with 84 and the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau 39. The statistics report for the Outaouais is available.
Students from the Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais School Service Center and the Western Quebec School Board will therefore school online and schools will be closed as of Thursday.
The curfew will be in effect at 8 p.m. in the Pontiac starting tomorrow Wednesday (April 14). Premier Legault said he feared for the number of hospitalizations in the region.
