The MRC Pontiac requests its own funding for the promotion of tourism
The MRC Pontiac hopes that sums be specifically invested by the government of Quebec to promote its tourism development.
During the most recent meeting of mayors, they resolved to ask that the funding for the promotion of tourism in the MRC Pontiac be specifically intended for the MRC and not only for Tourisme Outaouais.
The MRC thus follows in the footsteps of the MRCs of Papineau and Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, who also resolved to send a similar request to the Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx.
« We are the three more rural and poorest regions in the Outaouais […] the feeling has been that, with all the money that Tourisme Outaouais has, that most of it seems to be focused on Gatineau, » mentioned the Warden.
Ms. Toller also hopes that a representative of the MRC Pontiac will be appointed to sit on the board of directors of Tourisme Outaouais.
Closure of Lac Dumont beach
Also in the tourism sector, the MRC Pontiac said it wanted to close the Lac Dumont beach, located on unorganized territory (TNO), because of COVID-19. Jane Toller mentioned this in her daily update on the virus, with CHIP 101.9.
Ms. Toller said she was informed of the situation at Lac Dumont by the Warden of the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau MRC, Chantal Lamarche, who reported that about 200 people had gone there during the May long weekend.
More details are to come on this subject.
