The MRC Pontiac meets with the CISSS de l’Outaouais

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020, the mayors of the MRC Pontiac met with the CISSS de l’Outaouais to discuss solutions to the recent closure of the Obstetrics wing of the Pontiac Community Hospital, until September. Yesterday, the Mayor of Fort-Coulonge, Gaston Allard, responded positively when asked about the meeting.

During the public meeting, the mayors of the MRC passed a resolution, mainly to asked for additional funding to be provided by the ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux for the hiring of local nurses.

The Warden of the MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller:

The MRC main focus with this resolution is to ensure that the salaries nurses in the Pontiac meet that of the nurses in Ontario, along with setting up a working group with representatives of the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais and members of the MRC Regional Council to create an action plan moving forward.

Representing the Pontiac MRC on the working group will be Warden Jane Toller, the mayor of Mansfield Gilles Dionne, the mayor of Shawville Sandra Murray and the mayor of Campbell’s Bay, Maurice Beauregard.

When asked, the CISSS de l’Outaouais declined comments, Thursday, though adding that ”the meeting went very well and that a committee will be set up moving forward. The meeting also allowed the CISSS to inform the mayors of the situation facing the obstetric services, and the mayors are now well informed of the reality of the Pontiac.”
