The MRC Pontiac and the Regional Council of Mayors have announced the decision to provide funds for various summer day camp programs in the Pontiac for the 2021 season. These funds will help guide the programs according to current regulations surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic in the Outaouais.

During the public meeting of the Regional Council of Mayors held on May 19, 2021, a unanimous resolution was adopted to use part of these funds to support the various summer day camp operations across the MRC.

The council of mayors of the MRC Pontiac explained that the COVID-19 pandemic had significant repercussions on municipalities, including financial losses and unforeseen additional expenses. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAMH) therefore grants financial assistance to municipalities. With an envelope of $ 800 million, this assistance will compensate all of Quebec’s municipalities for 2020 and 2021.

On April 7, 2021, the MAMH announced that financial assistance of $ 3,922,982 would be paid to the Outaouais MRCs, including an amount of $ 879,829 that was allocated to the Pontiac MRC.

“Our summer day camps provide a very valuable experience for our young people, all the more important in this time of pandemic. This funding will allow our hard-working community organizations to provide our youth with a healthy and safe environment to socialize, learn and play. »

– Cyndy Phillips – Director of Economic Development for the MRC Pontiac

The following day camps will be supported in their efforts to provide an essential service to our youngest population during this difficult summer season:
– $ 13,000 – Le Patro
– $ 20,000 – The Jardin Éducatif du Pontiac
– $ 8,000 – The Youth Center of Rapides-des-Joachims
– $ 20,000 – The municipality of Alleyn-et-Cawood
– $ 20,000 – Shawville Recreation Association
– $ 20,000 – The Chapeau Recreational Association
– $ 3,000 – Norway Bay Municipal Association

The staff of the MRC, the warden and the Regional Council of Mayors wish the day camp managers an excellent season and sincerely thank them for their sustained efforts to offer safe activities to the young people of Pontiac.
