Gathered in a virtual general assembly last Monday, members of the Hautes-Rivières Teaching Staff Union (SPEHR) of the Hauts-Bois-de-Outaouais territory voted in favor of the strike by 95%.

SPEHR President Daniel Boisjoli said François Legault’s government is uncompromising and his offers have not, according to him, evolved since the start of negotiations, ie for almost a year. “We are facing a government that is making political and budgetary choices that do not favor public services, especially in education and health … It is implausible when you consider that these files were, however, priorities for the CAQ. An agreement significantly improving the conditions of practice is necessary for the education network, which has been supporting the success of students, young people and adults, at arm’s length, for too long, ”said Daniel Boisjoli. The strike mandate was not specified in the press release.

The difficult conditions that were in place before the pandemic: the worst pay in Canada, heterogeneous classes, job insecurity (1 in 2 teachers) will not disappear as if by magic, according to the SPEHR. Daniel Boisjoli mentioned that the sustainability of the network depends on attracting new teachers, but also by retaining people already in positions. More details to come.
