The Journal de Montréal publishes article highlighting Pontiac’s low vaccination rate
Quebec’s biggest French-language daily newspaper, the Journal de Montréal, published an article in its February 5 edition titled “Welcome to the Pontiac, the hard heads of vaccination in Quebec” (tr.). The article was also published through affiliated media at the Journal de Québec and TVA.
Journalist Nora T. Lamontagne met with elected officials like Pontiac Warden Jane Toller and Shawville Mayor Bill McCleary, as well as health officials and local residents to get a handle on why this region has vaccination rate far below the provincial average.
“Welcome to the Pontiac: a rural and English-speaking region of the Outaouais which is one of the least vaccinated in Quebec,” the article opens (tr.). “The Journal went to meet its inhabitants to try to understand why nearly one in three people still refuse the injection.”
