The director of CHIP 101.9 appointed as president of the Association des radios communautaires du Québec
The Association des radios communautaires du Québec (ARCQ) celebrates the arrival of François Carrier as president of the organization. General Manager of Pontiac Community Radio (CHIP 101.9), François Carrier has been involved in the ARCQ board of directors since 2016. He says he wants to do everything in his power so that the Association can support its members in view of the post-COVID-19 era.
“I would first like to thank outgoing President Tanya Beaumont, with whom I have worked closely for the past three years and who will prove to be an important ally for me in pursuing the objectives of the ARCQ. The next few months will be crucial for the revival of our community and we have already deployed an action plan in this direction. ”

This appointment does not change anything in his job as Director of CHIP 101.9.
“Several people from the Pontiac asked me if I was going, and not at all” exclaimed François Carrier, during his interview with Nathalie Vassilof. “It’s even rather the opposite, I am basically a representative of the Pontiac radio and the position of president is a voluntary job. I’m just happy to have the chance to make the Pontiac better known on the provincial scene. Our region is sometimes unknown elsewhere and I will try to represent the people here as best as possible ”, François Carrier confided to Nathalie Vassilof.
François Carrier believes that the actions taken by the Government of Quebec during the pandemic are a good starting point.
“Over the past year, the Quebec government has invested an average of $ 15.57 per capita in our media to inform the population of an unprecedented health crisis. These investments in reliable sources of information like our community radio stations have been the best possible vaccine against disinformation, allowing messages to be heard and understood by the population. The Government of Quebec has been a leader in the country and in the world, we must continue to show the way. In its recovery plan, Quebec would therefore benefit from keeping its good habits and building on the results obtained. ”

Thus, the new president, helped by the director of the ARCQ, Martin Bougie, established a list of stakeholders from political, economic and cultural circles to meet in the coming weeks in order to make them aware of the needs and solutions to help members.
“The next few months will be busy, as we have already established links with about 20 politicians and business people. Our board of directors will work tirelessly over the coming months, prioritizing the development of local and national sales, the health and evolution of our radio bingos, as well as the services rendered to our members . ”

In passing, the new president thanked the members. “We are fortunate to have dynamic members who are close to their community, all over Quebec. Our primary strength lies in the daily information and entertainment work of our 37 member radios of the Association ”, maintains François Carrier, while insisting on the fact that community radios are real economic and cultural forces for the province.
