The Youth Protection Department of the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) is partnering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Outaouais to offer a mentoring program for young people between the ages of 16 and 21 years-old who are among the most vulnerable in the Outaouais region.

This initiative follows the recommendation of the Laurent Commission, which is to promote a better transition to adult life and set up a support program. In this project, the CISSS de l’Outaouais aims to improve the mental health, well-being and overall development of young people.

“The involvement of the big brothers and big sisters of the Outaouais has made a difference in the lives of many children and young people in all sectors of the Outaouais,” wrote Colette Nadeau, director of youth protection, in a press release. “This program will meet an important need for young people in transition to adulthood.”

The CISSS wishes to recruit around a hundred mentors, who will be trained to properly support young people, who will be able to develop relationships of sharing, trust, reciprocity and mutual commitment. The objective of this association is to make a difference in the lives of young people and to support them in times when they need it.
