The number of power outages in the Upper Pontiac, which include L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Chichester and Sheenboro, has reached the same peak as 2016 with 75 recorded outages.
Since 2009, residents of this municipality have systematically identified the power outages in the upper Pontiac. 2016 saw the largest number setting a record with 75 outages. Now, with two months left, 2019 should see the highest outage number since the records have been kept.
2019 has been marked by three months in particular. February, where the upper Pontiac saw ten identified blackouts . July, where 22 failures were recorded early in the month, but the situation stabilized following analyses and repair work conducted by Hydro-Québec. According to residents, the Month of July also marked 2019 due to the number of power outages equalling the largest number of outages for year to date. The third month is the current month; October, where residents’ have recorded 13 outages equaling the 2016 record with 75 failures.
More failures, but fewer minutes
Though 2019 is expected to see more outages than previous years, the cumulative duration of the recorded outages are much lower than previous years. In 2013, there were 60 outages at 6,629 minutes. In 2011, 46 at 5,699 minutes and 2016 saw 75 at 4030 minutes. As a comparison, for 2019, the duration of the outages have only reached approximately 2,434 minutes for 75 outages.
