Testimony of a Pontiacker grappling with long COVID
France Lavoie, a citizen of Mansfield and who contracted COVID-19 at the end of last fall, agreed to talk about her experience with the virus. As Dr Horacio Arruda has repeatedly said, the virus is everywhere. This is also the observation of France Lavoie.
“I have received several calls from public health and despite everything, after all these calls, it is not yet known where exactly I could have caught it. It could have been at the grocery store, in contact with a loved one, in a retirement home … We don’t know, ”explains France Lavoie.
After contracting the virus, France Lavoie noted that symptoms did not appear immediately.
“At first, nothing. By the time I received the confirmation that I was positive, I had started to experience symptoms, but mild. It was really a few days later that I felt symptoms such as fatigue, sore throats and that I lost my sense of smell, ”explains France Lavoie.
Fortunately, a few days before, France Lavoie had gone into isolation. Moreover, she stresses that contracting the virus can cause several reactions within those close to her.
“You feel judged and guilty because people you have been in contact with also have to isolate themselves. It’s really not easy, ”testifies France Lavoie.
Six months after contracting the disease, France Lavoie is gradually recovering from COVID-19, even though her sense of smell is still playing tricks on her. “Impossible to smell anything. Even today, I haven’t fully regained my sense of smell, however, since taking the vaccine, I’m starting to smell little by little, “underlines France Lavoie.
Like others who have contracted COVID, she sees positive repercussions after taking the vaccine. “Not long after taking the vaccine, I went for a bike ride and smelled of pollution from cars. Usually, I don’t like that smell, but there, I jumped for joy, “said France Lavoie with emotion.
In fact, she is part of a study group on the subject, in order to deepen our knowledge of the disease.
“Go ahead, get vaccinated, this is important and it really exists,” concludes France Lavoie.
