Temporary Closure of Bois-Franc Road in the Pontiac MRC

Temporary Closure of Bois-Franc Road in the Pontiac MRC

4 May 2026 à 2:29 pm

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests (MRNF) has announced the immediate closure of the Bois-Franc Road at kilometer 55, located on Crown land within the unorganized territory (TNO) of Lac-Nilgaut in the Pontiac RCM. Traffic is now prohibited there for an indefinite period.

According to the Ministry, heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused a significant increase in water flow, exceeding the capacity of the existing culvert. This overload has led to the erosion of the road surface, making the infrastructure unsafe and impassable for users.

No detour is possible at this specific section of the Bois-Franc Road. Signage has been installed on site to inform users and secure the area. The MRNF is urging people travelling on public forest roads to plan their trips accordingly and exercise caution.

Closure location

  • Bois-Franc Road, km 55
  • Coordinates: 46°13’03’’ N, 76°55’56’’ W
  • Region: Outaouais, TNO of Lac-Nilgaut, Pontiac RCM
  • Duration of closure: Indefinite

The Ministry also reminds the public that, under Section 233 of the Sustainable Forest Development Act, anyone who violates a restriction on access to a multi-use road is subject to a fine ranging from $500 to $10,000.

For more information about the condition of forest roads or this closure, citizens may contact the Coulonge–et–Basse-Lièvre management unit at 819-683-2626, extension 608704.
