Culture Outaouais has released the results of a study examining private funding for the cultural sector in Gatineau and across the wider Outaouais region.

Presented during the annual members’ meeting held at the Centre culturel du Vieux-Aylmer, the study was conducted by the firm Moris, which specializes in philanthropy. It portrays a cultural sector that is dynamic, but still largely dependent on public funding.

According to the findings, the Outaouais region has significant strengths, including a young and educated population and growing cultural diversity. However, private funding remains limited, poorly structured, and difficult for many organizations to access.

The study also identifies several challenges, such as a lack of resources dedicated to philanthropic development, insufficient outreach to donors, and limited collaboration with the business community.

Among the proposed solutions are stronger connections between the cultural and economic sectors, the development of philanthropic skills, and improved communication strategies to better showcase cultural impact.

For Culture Outaouais leadership, these results confirm the need to strengthen funding tools in order to ensure the sustainability and growth of the region’s cultural sector.
