State of the flooding in Fort-Coulonge: ”Devastating”
During Mother’s Day weekend, the Pontiac region, including Fort-Coulonge / Mansfield, was still directly affected by the spring flooding. The municipality of Fort-Coulonge announced that the expected maximum water level was reached according to the Ottawa River Regulation Board. The municipality of Fort-Coulonge described the impact of the situation as ”devastating”, as more homes were flooded and isolated. The municipality’s Director General, Ellen Boucher, told CHIP 101.9 that the number of evacuees remained the same as a result of the residents in the newly affected homes had already been evacuated.
Some streets are now completely closed to traffic while others are restricted to local traffic only. Citizens are always asked to stay outside and away from the flooded areas. The municipal team and the fire department are monitoring the situation very closely and the pump installed on the Bord de l’Eau Road is running to try to evacuate the water in the area.
The municipality also reminds you that if you have been evacuated, you must contact the Red Cross by phone by calling 1-800-863-6582 or on the Internet: www.redcross.ca/inondationsquebec.
