Spring flood 2019: Upper Pontiac prepares for the inevitable

24 April 2019 à 12:00 am

The municipalities of the Upper Pontiac; Sheenboro, l’Isle-aux-Alumettes and Chichester, are advising its residents that sand bags and sand are available from the municipalities in limited supply. Citizens can, however, carry and fill their own bags. Sandbags can be picked up at the Demers Center Garage at 450, Rang 5 and in Chichester and Sheenboro at the Fire Hall at 1513 Chapeau-Sheenboro Road.

Drinking water is also available for people whose wells have become contaminated by the floods or septic systems. There are water bottles available at the Potable Water Plant, located at 88 Pembroke Road. There are also water bottles available at the Demers garage. An employee will be present daily from 8am to 7pm until further notice.

It should be noted that emergency vehicles will not be able to access roads that are closed due to flooding. For security reasons, residents are asked to turn off their electricity if the water levels reach the electrical circuits. Note that in the past, several structures were built in what is now the Ottawa River Floodplain but the affected municipalities will continue to help their residents as much as possible. For more information, please contact the municipal office of L’Isle-aux-Alumettes at 819-689-2266.
