Special weather statement for Pontiac Saturday and Sunday

Environment Canada is warning of a major weather system that is set to hit the Pontiac this weekend.

“Precipitation is expected to begin on Saturday, initially as rain. The rain is expected to change over to snow overnight Saturday night and could continue into Sunday evening,” the statement reads. “Significant rainfall amounts, and then snowfall amounts, are possible in some locations. It should also be noted that the accumulated snow could be heavy and sticky. This could add considerable weight to structures and trees, making them more vulnerable to breakage.”

The statement advises the public to avoid any non-essential travel.
