Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi MP Sophie Chatel Welcomes Creation of “Maisons Canada”

Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi MP Sophie Chatel has welcomed Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent announcement of Maisons Canada, a new federal agency dedicated to large-scale construction of affordable housing.

Chatel noted that “too often, our communities see projects stalled by an administrative burden that slows the delivery of housing. Maisons Canada is designed to simplify the process and cut red tape, so people can access affordable housing more quickly.”

According to Chatel, the agency will act as a one-stop shop, making it easier for developers and community organizations to access resources, federal land, and financial incentives. It will also be responsible for speeding up approvals and consolidating what were previously separate procedures into a single streamlined process—significantly reducing construction delays.

Elected in 2021, Sophie Chatel is experiencing her first parliamentary session under Prime Minister Mark Carney. In an interview with CHIP 101.9, she was asked about the differences between Mark Carney and her former leader, Justin Trudeau.
