SOPFEU launches its recruitment campaign
The Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU) has launched an annual campaign to recruit forest firefighters. SOPFEU’s prevention and communications officer, Mélanie Morin, specified that SOPFEU offers several jobs in a variety of stimulating positions. On the other hand, she explains that you have to be ready to travel and make sure you are available.
The number of hours is a minimum of 40 hours per week and it varies according to needs. The start and end dates are not the same for each base (approximately early May and late September). The staffing process for the wildland firefighter position includes an interview, medical examination and physical test. As the work is physically demanding, forest firefighters must be in good physical condition. Mélanie Morin also stressed that applications are open to everyone and that even though traditionally there are more men, women are invited to discover career possibilities.
The period of employment for this position runs from January to April and the posting has already started. The interview conducted by Nathalie Vasiloff with the prevention and communications officer of SOPFEU, Mélanie Morin, is available here.
