SOPFEU announces nomination of new president
Quebec’s forest firefighting agency SOPFEU has announced the appointment of Daniel Cantin as Chairman of its Board of Directors.
“This appointment is of a particular nature since it is the first time that the presidency of the Board has been entrusted to a former employee of the organization. Cantin worked at SOPFEU from 1986 to 2001 as a forest firefighter, protection officer … and officer at the Roberval Regional Center. At the provincial level, he was also very involved in the training of SOPFEU staff,” a SOPFEU press release indicates (tr.).
In addition to his expertise acquired in the protection of forests against fire, Mr. Cantin is director of the Fire Department of Dolbeau-Mistassini and of the eastern sector of the MRC de Maria-Chapdelaine. He is also vice-president of the Association of Fire and Civil Safety Managers of Quebec (AGSICQ).
Two new administrators
SOPFEU has also filled two vacant positions on its Board. Since December 16, 2021, Dominic Lauzon, director of land management for the MRC de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, has held the position of administrator of the “industrial” group from the West region. For his part, Karl Thériault, Director of Fiber Supply for Sappi Canada Enterprises Inc., performs the same duties for the Eastern region. The members of the Board of Directors would like to thank the outgoing President, Mr. Pierre Cormier, for his five years of dedication and commitment to SOPFEU’s mission.
