SOPFEU: 2018 season

The Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU) said this 2018 season was more active than previous years in regards to the amount of fires fought on Quebec lands during the summer.

Up until now, the SOPFEU has fought 518 forest fires in intensive protected zones compared to the average of 418 over the last ten years, although the number of acres of forest that burned has remained below the average of the last ten years; 28,439 hectares of forest, compared to 34,094 on average.
