A 44-year-old Shawville man is facing charges of drug-impaired driving as well as possession of stolen property following a traffic stop near Pembroke on Saturday morning.

According to Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, officers stopped a vehicle at around 8:30 a.m. on March 11, on Greenwood Road in Laurentian Valley Township, following reports of a suspected impaired driver. The driver was made to perform a field sobriety test and was taken back to the detachment where he was tested further by a “drug recognition expert” officer. During the investigation, police discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from Shawville and it was returned to its owner.

Michael Smith-Doiron, 44, was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 11, 2023.
