The MRC Pontiac received its first electric car, this week, as part of the project of the ‘Système d’autopartage avec véhicule électrique en région’ (SAUVéR 2) coordinated by the company YHC Environment. The car should be available to citizens within a few months.

In January, CHIP 101.9 published a story about the pilot project, detailing the planned use of the car in the MRC Pontiac. The environment coordinator at the MRC Thierry Raimbault explained that the MRC has set up a think tank, with different partners such as TransporAction, to integrate the vehicle into the public realm of ridesharing use aside from that of the MRC staff.

The municipalities participating in the SAUVéR 2 project will have a few months to test the community’s interest in the use and sharing of electric vehicles.

In a press release issued by the Pontiac MRC on Thursday, the director general of the MRC Bernard Roy said that “the MRC intends to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and travel costs for its staff by 20% as of 2020.” Two public electric charging stations will also be installed soon in the axis of highway 148.

Note that this is the second project of its kind organized by YHC Environment. The first was conducted in 2016-2017 with 6 Quebec municipalities (Plessisville, Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac, Nicolet, Bromont, Rivière-du-Loup and Sainte-Julienne). The MRC Pontiac is also, according to the release issued by its department of communications, the first in Quebec to participate in the project, alongside the municipalities. In Outaouais, Maniwaki also joined SAUVÉR 2. Note that a third pilot project is currently under preparation with the Conseil Régional de l’Environnement et du développement durable de l’Outaouais (CREDDO) and should include Outaouais municipalities, namely Val-des-Monts, Thurso, L’Ange-Gardien, Chelsea and Cantley.
