Road checks between Ontario and Quebec already in place in the Pontiac
To cross the border checkpoints between Ontario and Quebec, it is necessary to have essential reasons. The Ontario Provincial Police set up roadblocks and this morning, at the bridges located in Portage-du-Fort and in L’Isle-aux-Allumettes.
Here are the reasons described as essential displacement:
– Residence or work in Ontario
– Reasons related to health care
– First Nations Treaty Rights
– Matters relating to the care or custody of children
– Transport of goods
– Passage through Ontario en route to another destination
No permanence but a random presence for the SQ
The presence of the Sûreté du Québec will be similar to what was done last year, a random presence at the entrance to the Pontiac bridges as well as an increased presence on the road.
“It’s really sporadic checks, it’s not 24 hours a day for us. It can be done on a weekday between 9 and 11 a.m. or in the afternoon, we don’t have a specific time. We will also carry out checks during our patrols, we will check, among other things, on the Ontario plates, ”explained Sergeant Marc Tessier of the Sûreté du Québec.
Remember that last Friday, Ontario first announced that non-essential travel between the two provinces would no longer be allowed. The government of Quebec followed suit a few hours later to reduce travel for residents of Quebec.
