Revenu Québec help low and modest income individuals and families file their taxes

Revenu Québec wants to make their taxe services better known and help low-income individuals and families take advantage of this tax season. As a government body that is qualified as an indispensable ally for citizens in fulfilling their tax obligations, Revenu Québec says it is in the best position to answer any questions people may have when filling their taxes, regardless of their profile and financial situation.

“Individuals with little or no income sometimes believe that they do not have to file a tax return. On the contrary, they have every reason to do so to benefit from the benefits and tax credits to which they are entitled. In addition, programs exist to facilitate the fulfillment of their tax obligations,” Revenu Québec said in a news release.

Revenu Québec’s digital platform justforall.ca is one of the first tools that individuals are directed to consult to get answers. The platform lists the answers to frequently asked questions. The information is classified according to the client specific needs and profiles in simple and easy-to-understand language.

The platform explains how they could benefit from things like the solidarity tax credit – the tax credits relating to work premiums or the housing allowance program, in particular. The latter was improved this year. Since October 1, eligible households can receive $100, $150 or $170 per month.

If the individual’s tax situation is simple, a volunteer in the tax assistance service could help them complete their federal and provincial income tax returns. Additionally, low-income individuals can use some of the government-authorized tax software for free to file their tax returns. Filling online allows them to send it faster, in addition to being an ecological solution that limits the risk of error. It is a choice that benefits everyone. Plus, this year, the deadline for filing your tax returns is May 1, 2023. “However, it is wise for individuals to file it early in the season to benefit as soon as possible from the credits and refunds to which they may be entitled,” Revenu Québec said.
