Renfrew : One death and a Second confirmed case of coronavirus

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) confirmed in the last few hours the first death related to the novel 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) in Renfrew County.

A 90-year-old woman died early in the morning of March 29th, 2020 at the Pembroke Regional Hospital. “We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased today,” said Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Cushman. I again ask everyone to make every effort to keep the community safe by practicing physical distance and staying at home. ”

The same day, a second positive case of COVID-19 was reported in the Renfrew county. The person, a woman in her 30s, developed mild symptoms and was tested at home by county paramedics on March 27th. The Health Unit confirms that she traveled from London, England on March 18th, and has been in self-isolation since arriving in Canada.

All necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the patient, the public and health care workers.

The RCDHU indicated that it is in contact with those who have been in contact with the woman who tested positive. Those affected will receive specific instructions to self-isolation and self-monitor thier symptoms.

The Warden of the Renfrew County Debbie Robinson declared a state of emergency at 2 p.m. Monday due to the global COVID-19 pandemic across the country. “We know this is a difficult time for residents of the county,” said Robinson. This emergency declaration allows the County of Renfrew to take action, make key decisions and access future funding from the province. ”

Limit travel between Quebec and Ontario
This week, the Warden of Pontiac MRC Jane Toller asked that Pontiac residents to limit their trips outside the region.

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit reported on March 25 that a Quebec resident working in the county and district of Renfrew had received a positive result from COVID-19.
