Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke NDP expresses outrage over racially motivated attack in Pembroke
The Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke NDP issued a press release Monday expressing outrage over the recent racist attack of an 80-year-old woman (Thi Nga Doan) on August 20 in Pembroke. According to the former NDP candidate during the 2019 Federal election and NDP executive member, Eileen Jones-Whyte, the NDP wanted to inform the public that this type of racism happens in all regions across the country.
According to the Jones-Whyte and the NDP, education has an important role to plan in the future of racial profiling and equality.
On August 20, the Ontario Provincial Police in Pembroke responded to the residents of Thi Nga Doan, a 80-year-old Vietnamese woman. It was reported that 4 young people yelled racial slurs at her, reportedly vandalizing the woman’s home and throwing a rock at her head. Doan was sent to the hospital to be treated for her injury.
The OPP’s investigation is ongoing. The suspects are described as four young people being between the ages of 15 and 17, and known to travel on bicycles.
