Relay between outside nurses causes another break in obstetrics in Shawville

The temporary interruption of service in the obstetrics wing of the Shawville hospital, that occurred between Monday evening and this morning at 8:00 am, was caused by a shortage of nursing staff, particularly in the relay between the Shawville nursing staff and the two nurses from the Jewish General Hospital, from Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, who have come to lend a hand to the Shawville team. The obstetric services were re-established at 8:00 this morning.

Last week, it was announced that two of the five doctors in the obstetrics unit of Shawville hospital would be leaving their posts at the end of December. The President-Director general of the CISSS de l’Outaouais, Josée Filion, argued that solutions had been put in place to maintain the service until January 2020.

It should be noted that an unexpected absence of surgeons on staff caused a interruption in general surgery last weekend at the Pontiac Hospital, which affected the obstetric unit since no surgeons were on site to perform emergency caesarean section. This service was reinstated Monday morning.
