Réjean Meilleur says he intends to contest
During their most recent meeting, the council of the municipality of l’Île-du-Grand-Calumet adopted a resolution to claim $15,000 for the fees incurred by the attorney in connection with the Réjean Meilleur file at the Commission municipale du Québec (CMQ).
According to what was said by mayor Serge Newberry, this file would have cost the municipality around $26,000. On January 13rd, the members of the council agreed to claim a portion of this amount from Réjean Meilleur himself.
Réjean Meilleur reacted to this resolution following his 10-day suspension saying he will challenge and defend himself in this matter.
“I decided not to appeal, even though it was my right, to prevent the residents’ bill from rising. It’s the board’s choice but aside from further increasing the cost in this matter, I don’t think it’s very constructive and I think, maybe, there are more important things that we should do. The mayor has already asked that I resign and my intention is to end my term. I decided to respect the judge’s decision even though my lawyer and I disagreed with several elements of the decision.” – Réjean Meilleur (Translated)
The claim hearing against Réjean Meilleur could be held at the Small Claims Division at the Court of Québec.
