Reactions to Mayor Newberry’s sick leave

Several people and citizens of Île-du-Grand-Calumet reacted to the news yesterday on Mayor Serge Newberry’s sick leave.

The former mayor of Île-du Grand-Calumet, Pierre Fréchette posted a comment on his Facebook page. He mentions that “As a taxpaying citizen I am worried about the increasing number of absences from the municipal council and the difficulty of the Council to rally and work in a transparent and constructive way for the good of our community. As citizen paying taxes I find it surprising that the elected partners and government representatives are not more worried about what is happening in our Municipality. Sad and disturbing as a citizen paying taxes, ” wrote the former elected official, who served as mayor between 2016 and spring 2017.

Recall that at the end of April Councilor Réjean Meilleur said that Mayor Serge Newberry had physically and verbally assaulted him. The next meeting of the municipality should take place on May 21st.
