Quebec Waste Reduction Week

Quebec Waste Reduction Week

19 October 2026 à 1:12 pm

The 26th edition of the Quebec Waste Reduction Week (QWDR) is being held from October 19th to 25th, 2026. This annual initiative invites the public to review their consumption habits and take concrete action to reduce the amount of waste produced on a daily basis.

During this awareness week, citizens are encouraged to promote reuse, repair, recycling and reduction at source in order to limit their environmental footprint.

Simple things to do include: using reusable bags and containers, avoiding single-use products, buying used items, repairing rather than throwing away items, and sorting recyclables better.

Reducing food waste is also an important way to reduce waste, including by planning meals, properly storing food and valuing leftovers.

The SQRD reminds us that every action counts and that even modest changes in habits can help reduce pressure on landfills and preserve natural resources.

This week is also an opportunity for municipalities, schools, businesses and community organizations to raise awareness in their communities and promote more responsible practices.

Reduce at the source, reuse and repair: all actions that can make a difference, well beyond this thematic week.
