The coronavirus could cause between 1,260 and 8,860 deaths in Quebec as of April 29, according to the scenarios presented on Monday by the Direction de la santé publique du Québec.

The strategic medical advisor at the Department of Public Health, Richard Massé, said he was confident that the reality would come closer to the optimistic scenario.

In the observed scenarios, public health experts indicate that the worst case will be around 8, 900 deaths, and the best around 1, 260 deaths. According to the scientific organization, the COVID-19 pandemic could reach its peak around April 18 in the province, after which the number of victims could decrease.

Quebec seems to be able to avoid the worst of the devastation that COVID-19 will leave behind, as explained by Dr. Richard Massé, who notes that Quebec, including its population, has followed the right path regarding its instructions.

The authorities point out that the scenarios can change with the population’s behavior, so we must continue to follow the instructions. The national director of public health, Dr. Horacio Arruda, meanwhile estimated that the optimistic scenario would be realized at 75%.
