Quebec may experience its last time change this weekend

29 October 2026 à 9:29 am

Quebec Prime Minister Paul St-Pierre Plamondon confirmed that his government intends to abolish the seasonal time change. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, Quebecers will still have to set their clocks back by one hour. At 2 a.m., it will be 1 o’clock.

The Prime Minister believes that this is likely the last time the public will have to make this change. His Government wishes to put an end to this practice, in particular because of its possible health effects and the adaptation difficulties it may cause for children.

One question remains: what time will Quebec keep year-round? Daylight saving time, which allows for brighter evenings, or standard time, which promotes an earlier sunrise in winter?

The government plans to consult experts in the coming months and hold a parliamentary committee before making a decision. Coordination with neighbouring territories will also need to be considered.
