Public libraries are becoming tourist destinations this summer

Public libraries are becoming tourist destinations this summer

26 May 2026 à 4:03 pm

The Quebec Public Libraries Association is launching the 2026 edition of its travel guide Hit the Road… to Public Libraries, an initiative that invites people to discover the province from a new perspective.

The guide highlights more than 50 public libraries across Quebec and encourages residents to include these cultural spaces in their summer getaways.

Beyond books, libraries are presented as true places of discovery and relaxation. Many stand out for their architecture, artwork, bright spaces, and cultural programming accessible to all.

The initiative also emphasizes the practical side of libraries for travelers. They offer air‑conditioned spaces, drinking water, washroom facilities, Internet access, and comfortable places to take a break while on the road.

The Quebec Public Libraries Association reminds the public that these institutions are vibrant spaces that reflect the identity of communities throughout the province.

In short, the guide offers an original way to travel this summer—by turning libraries into welcoming cultural stops along Quebec’s roads.
